On July 15, local Foundation Building Materials staff, community leaders (including the Mayor of Valparaiso, Jon Costas), customers and vendors alike gathered at the new FBM branch for lunch and a ribbon cutting ceremony. While FBM has been serving the construction trades for years out of South Bend, Indiana the new Valparaiso location provides more convenient access to the northwestern corner of the state and surrounding areas. The location, a vacant lot and aging building that had sat unused for close to 8 years, was renovated by FBM with cooperation from the city and various grants. Overall, the city was pleased to see the project completed, as it put back into productive use an area that had been abandoned and underutilized for some time. The property improvement effort included upgrades to the exterior and interior of the building, adding lighting, awnings, landscaping and sidewalks. Additionally, the project was selected as a winner for the Valparaiso Chamber’s 49th Annual Community Improvement Awards which commends local businesses for their commitment and investment in the local community. The project and FBM will be recognized on July 27 at the Urschel Pavilion in downtown Valparaiso.
